How to Improve Direct Mail Response Rates

Direct mail marketing is used by companies to send advertisements or purchase incentives to customers. This article describes how to enhance direct mail marketing using postal mail.

On the front of the envelope, include a statement that peaks the customer's interest.

When trying to get customers to open your direct mail item, try adding a phrase such as, "Would you throw away cash? If no, then don't throw this envelope away".

This strategy taps into people's desire not to miss out on a deal. By including a statement such as "Act before June 3, 2010 to receive this one time offer", you might get a greater response to your direct mail marketing efforts.

Remove your company's logo from
the front of the envelope.

I know. You've spent all this time developing and promoting your unique logo and it probably seems ridiculous to just remove it. However, many people will view your direct mail item as junk mail as soon as they see the logo. Simply remove it and see if that increases your response rates.

Use a font that is similar to handwriting.

A number of companies have begun to use this strategy to add a more personal appearance to the mail piece, thereby increasing the likelihood that the customer opens the mail.

Try using postage stamps instead of the electronic postal meters.
