The failure of some chiropractors may be due to a variety of factors that many times may be beyond the practitioners' control. Some chiropractors fail based on poor location, poor technique, false claims or legality issues.
- Many chiropractors set up their businesses in locations that are not suitable for the service they are offering. For instance, setting up a business in an impoverished neighborhood and not accepting Medicare.
- It is not uncommon for a chiropractor to graduate with a chiropractic degree without fully developing his skills as a health care practitioner. Chiropractors are trained to use their hands utilizing a high-force, low-amplitude adjustment in order to remove a subluxation from the spine. This art takes years to develop and for many chiropractors, poor technique can be a problem when starting a practice.
- Chiropractors often promise the end-all solution to all of heath care. The problem lies in the conditions that chiropractors simply cannot treat. False advertising of services and promises of outcomes will lead to a poor patient satisfaction rate, and that may lead to an ailing practice.
- It is not uncommon for any health care provider to be sued for malpractice, which necessitates having malpractice insurance. A malpractice suit may lead to a doctor losing her business or even her ability to practice medicine. Other legal issues include falsifying documents or cases of sexual harassment.
- Health care is a multibillion-dollar business and this brings competition. While each health care professional is subjected to rigorous testing, people skills cannot be learned in a classroom. Poor people skills may lead to a doctor failing in his practice, especially in such a competitive business.
