If you've ever had to memorize a speech or a text book portion for a test then you may have already found out that the line by line method of repetition doesn't really work well. What may work for a poem or song isn't the best way for continuous sentences that don't rhyme. Use the following crutch to help your brain recall.
-Code your speech-
Write down the first letter of every word in capital letters and lower case letters and with punctuation. The previous sentence should look like this: W d t f l o e w i c l a l c l a w p. Do this with the whole text. Now use this crutch to help your brain recall the speech. Read your speech with the help of only the first letters. Underline any problem areas where you had to check the original text and try those areas again after you've read the whole speech. Do this over and over until you can do it without the code. Using this crutch will help you to memorize a long speech successfully.

-Write your speech-
If your speech isn't too long write it out by hand or else type it. Say the words out loud as you're typing or writing them. Read it again.
-Read your speech-
In a quiet environment without distractions read your speech through a couple of times. Don't read silently. Moving your lips helps your brain to memorize the speech and the lip movements. Practice the tone and inflection of your voice that you want to use when actually presenting your speech.
