Seasonal sales are an very important part to any small retailer. There will be seasonal promotions, sales, and markdowns. Properly planning these things can make or break any retail store. It is even more important for a small retailer. A small retailer has to pay close attention to the
bottom line. They should notice when the best option for sales or markdowns are, so they can still increase there sales.
When the season is coming close to an end, have one large sale to decrease your inventory. I would recommend doing this a few weeks before the end of the season(ex. Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring). Customers start looking for that seasons items during this time. I would recommend starting with small markdowns. Highlight these items in your store. The more focus you have on the first markdown, the less items you will have to reduce even more.
