It was difficult to face a bully each day at work when I was being harassed, threaten, punished, yelled at for no reason constantly. I tried to ignore it and worked around the situation but the bully was getting out of hand. I found ways to understand and coped with my situation. It has helped me be the stronger person I am today. I started looking for another job after I knew the Bully will not change or leave. It was to the point that being there in a toxic environment and being bullied is a daily routine that empowered the Bully. I literally took myself out of that environment, stop feeding into his lies, and took care of me (yoga, self help books, etc)!
Talking to my peers at work and friend helped me recognized help cope with the bully. My friends have supported me on difficult times when I was being threaten. They were my conscience. By talking about it with a peer or friend that you trust is another positive reinforcement for me.
I found that you CAN NOT change a bully. A bully is a person has problems and by coping would take it out on others instead of getting self help. Self help on the other hand for me has empower me to take care of myself. I've seek guidance by going to employee health, human resources, my union, and my doctor. It has many positive reinforcement by allowing me to understand that I don't have a problem! The BULLY is the one with the problem.
