The art of negotiating could be taught to just about anyone, although it takes patience and in many instances, it takes persistence.
Always be courteous and considerate but keep a firm foot on the ground by not letting others take advantage of you. Don't threaten or yell at the other party if he/she is not willing bend but also don't submit to the original price either. Remember, you have the upper hand. There is so much competition these days, so be ready to walk away if the other party can't meet your needs. You will find someone that is willing to meet your needs.
Don't be afraid to ask for a better price right off the bat. Always remember, start low, and negotiate accordingly. If you were to start higher, you can't go down, you'll only be able go up in price, which defeats the whole purpose of negotiating. My father would always say "The answer is always no until you ask."
Paying cash is definitely more attractive to vendors, suppliers, or anyone you conduct business with because they do not have to pay credit card fees, late fees, merchant fees or take the chance on you defaulting on a payment. In addition, there is a good chance they will give you a lower rate or a discount.
Ask for more than what you wanted originally. You never know what someone is going to say because small business owners are constantly in need of expanding their clientele.
