Many times the best way to get ahead in your business is to network with others who have similar interests. If you are an individual who specializes in animal products or services, you should consider partnering with local animal hospitals. By forming a relationship with the hospitals, you can place advertisements inside of the hospital that are "pet-specific." These ads can increase your clientele and boost your sales tremendously.
Speak with the owner or person in charge at the animal hospital. Introduce yourself and advise her of the services or products that you are offering and whether the services are free or fee-based. If you are offering items or pets for sale, tell the owner of your expertise and credentials. For example, your business might be licensed, bonded and insured. You might be a championship breeder or all of your dogs might be American Kennel Club-registered.
Browse through your local telephone book for the addresses of animal hospitals in your area. After getting a list of addresses, go to the hospitals. An "in-person" visit can prove to be more beneficial than a telephone call to the hospital, since a phone call is rather impersonal.
Ask the owner if you can have permission to place the advertisement inside of her hospital. If your services are fee-based, you can offer the owner a referral fee for all of the clients you receive as a result of the ad being placed in her hospital.
Ensure that your advertisement is relevant to animals and will not encourage competition against the animal hospital in which the advertisement will be located. For example, it can be an ad that promotes custom-made animal furniture, animal clothing, services to find lost pets or pet-sitting services.
Honor the information that you placed on the advertisements. For example, if your advertisement says that you are offering pet-sitting service at a discounted rate of $50.00 per day, don't tell the pet owner that the rate is $60.00 per day when they come to you. This is called false advertisement. If enough of the pet owners tell the owner of the hospital that you are not honoring your advertisements, she might remove your ads from her hospital to protect her customers.
Place the advertisement in an area of the animal hospital where there is a lot of traffic. The owner may have a specific bulletin board that he uses for advertisements. If that is the case, be sure to honor the owner's request. By doing so, you will prevent the risk of having your advertisements banned from the hospital.
