How to Purchase a Redbox DVD Rental Machine

Redbox is a popular alternative to renting DVD movies in the United States, and it consists of a red machine that allows customers to get one-day rentals without having to have a video membership. To rent a Redbox DVD, you must be over 18 and have a credit or debit card. After purchasing the rental from the Redbox, you can return it to any Redbox machine in the United States. Machines are most commonly found at grocery stores and McDonald's fast-food restaurants. However, any business can purchase one if their business receives enough customer traffic. Adding a machine to your business could also attract more customers.

Select the average traffic or number of customers that come to your business each week from the drop-down menu. This selection is important since a Redbox may not be available for purchase for you if your traffic is around less than 15,000 customers a week. (Applications from stores that have under 15,000 customers a week are approved or rejected by Redbox staff on a per-case basis.)

Enter in your name, email address, zip code and state in the appropriate fields. Enter the type of location that your business is, such as college campus, office building, grocery store or apartment complex.

Check your email for message from a Redbox representative explaining your options for purchasing a Redbox. If you don't receive an email within 48 hours, continue to Step 5.

Check Redbox.com (see Resources). Click on the "Get a Redbox" option from the bottom of the page.

Fill out the contract agreement that will state that you must consistently sell an specific amount of Redbox DVDs each month. Pending approval, you will then have to sign a purchasing agreement and send a money order. Within a week of processing your information you should have a machine at your business.

Contact Redbox by filling out a contact message via the "Help" section of their website, or email a representative at questions@redbox.com. You can also contact a representative directly at (866)REDBOX-3.

My friend and I were recently talking about how involved with technology our daily lives have become. Reading this post makes me think back to that discussion we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.

I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Societal concerns aside... I just hope that as the price of memory decreases, the possibility of copying our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's a fantasy that I dream about every once in a while.
