No matter what product or service we're selling we won't sell ANY if no one comes to our door - and in the case of the online world, we need people to find and click on the link to our website. This is a challenge. Just being online doesn't guarantee people will see you. What are some methods to draw visitors?
Free, Free and Free - Offering something free gets people's attention. Of course, these days, many think there's a catch involve. But even still Free might just get them to click on your link. This especially works if something free is being GIVEN to them.
An attractive message - In a world of billions of web pages we need to find a way to get our message to stand out. This is very important if we're to have someone visit us. Look around at the ads in your category. Try to be as different as possible. If our website is a business opportunity website try to put an ad together that even more specifically touches a need. For example you'll see a lot of "Make $100,000 in a week" or "I'm making $5,000 a day". But some have gotten better results saying, "This won't make you rich but you'll have extra money in your pocket" or "Need a little extra cash?". Ultimately the ads are saying the same thing, "click here and make money" but in different ways. Look for a unique spin.
If it's a service you're providing focus on the uniqueness of your business. If you're a moving service, are you "green" friendly? Do you offer 24 hour service? Do you specialize in a type of moving (e.g. pianos, expensive works of art)?
There are also website traffic services that promise you'll get hundreds of thousands of visitors for a price. Be wary of these. Some may work, but research each opportunity and see what others are saying.
Some services though can get you visitors for free if you trade banner ads with them or trade links with them. This works to get your site/blog out there but it does take time and communicating with like sites.
There are additional methods that are a little more creative and is free. 6 Links is a website promotional tool where to post your site link you have to look at 6 other links first for about 15 seconds each (it's timed). Once you post yours you get your own page with your ad in the #1 slot. As you promote your promotional page those that want to get visitors also have to look at your site and the other five. Once they add theirs, their link goes to the number #1 slot and yours to number #2. In time your ad will be seen by thousands fre e of charge (see link below).
Location, location - Just like a brick and mortar business it makes sense to set up shop where others can see us. Just having a website isn't enough. Just having a website is like building your retail store in the woods. No one knows you're there unless you put signs up on the road where drivers can see it. Likewise with our website. We need to put ads promoting our site where people will see it. Depending on our financial means we can put banner or text ads on popular websites or place them in classified sites like www.craigslist.com (If using craigslist you will need to repost every couple of days to keep it near the top).
But no matter how we get our visitors there we need to have a site that will keep them there and hopefully translate to sales. So make sure your site is attractive, professional and clear. If you're design savvy you can do this yourself or you can have someone else do it. As you come up with a design you want to make it in a way that visitors will not only come back, but tell others.
