A sound bite is a 30 second or less introduction for your business. It is designed to catch the attention of your listener and make them interested in hearing more about you and your business. It should explain the who, what and why of your business. Writing your own sound bite is a simple process if you keep these simple steps in mind.
Next, develop a draft using the questions you answered in the first step as a starting point. It's okay if it isn't under 30 seconds at this point. Just write whatever comes to your mind.
Start with a little brainstorming about your business. Write down on paper a few things about your business such as:
What's unique about what you do?
What do you provide to your customers?
What are the top 3 strengths of your business?
What response do you usually get from people when you tell them what you do?
What future plans does your business have?
What is an aspect of your business that your customers can't do without?
Now is the time to narrow it down. Our goal is to get 2-3 sentences at most and under 30 seconds when you say it out loud. Remember, this is your "elevator speech". You should be able to tell this to someone in an elevator from the 1st floor to the 10th floor with no problem! Start with the sentences you wrote in the previous step, making note of important keywords that describe your business well. Draft your sentences using these keywords but at the same time ensuring your message is clear.

Now that you have your sound bite, practice it as much as possible. Try it in front of the mirror, on your family and on your friends. Keep practicing until it comes out like flowing conversation and not something you just memorized.
Now that you have 2-3 sentences, read it out loud to yourself several times. Is it easy to remember? Does it make sense? Does it grab your own attention? Does it fall within the 30 second limit? If you answered no to any of those questions, go back and edit your sound bite until you are happy with it.
