How to Develop a Lawn Care Marketing Plan

Lawn care marketing used to be "lawn care fliers and lawn business service door hangers." That was the '90's. In 2010, the internet RULES lawn care marketing. In fact, according to Nielsen Media, "80% of all consumers looking for a local business search the internet before calling." It's not nearly as difficult as you probably think. 12 year old kids can do it and so can you. Let's get it started...

Nielsen Media, considered to be the absolute source for advertising trends, states that "%80 of all consumers searching for a local business look online first." Heavy, huh? You ain't there you're nowhere.

Pause for a moment, and let that sink in.

"Search Engines are the #1 Media Type Consumers Use to Find Local Businesses." That is some heavy shizzle! More than radio, TV or yellow pages , your clients are looking online to find "businesses." That's YOU. They are looking online to find "lawn service Charlotte NC" or "landscapers Miami FL." Don't take my word for it. This is the biggest media company in the world telling you that if you are not findable on Google, Yahoo or Bing, the cash register won't ring. Period.Turn out the lights, we are done here! The fat lady has left the building.

Soooo, (insert awkward pause here), uh, what next? What if I don't have a website? What if my website is on page #97 for "memphis lawn care"? What if I wouldn't know HTML if it punched me in the face? Is all lost? Am I without hope?

No.

All you need to do is …

Go to my blog at http://www.LawnCareMarketing.net. I'm going to show you how I've taken websites from nothin' to the first page. Many of them. Better yet, subscribe to the RSS (the orange and white striped thing, just click on it).

I'm going to lay out THE EXACT PLAN for you to get more lawn business customers by using the web. Not just your website, the web!

At this point you probably want some proof. I understand. I'm a "show me guy" too, I've just never been to Missouri. Check out the proof by copying and pasting this lawn care marketing video link: http://www.LawnCareSucks.com

You just let the search engines know what your website is about. YOU (your website or blog) has to tell the spider bots that your website is about "Miami lawn care services" or whatever the case may be. So how do you do this? It's all about five main things:

1.Title tags

2. Descriptions

3. Content

4. Site structure (internal links)

5. External links pointing to your site

I'm going to be going over all these five concepts, in step – by – step detail over the next coming weeks. Not only do I know this stuff, but I am enough of a geek to LOVE this stuff. Why?

I love the "rush" of seeing my (and my clients) websites crawl up the search engine rankings. You can see your progress. It makes you feel good. It is victory!

If you are reading this, you typed into an SE (search engine) something to do with lawn/landscaping marketing.

If you read my blog at http://www.LawnCareMark eting.NET, and more importantly, do what I say, you will be in the top five returns, and your lawn service business will explode!

See that "orange and white stripy thing" at the right top corner of the page on http://www.LawnCareMarketing.net? That's my RSS feed. If you click it and subscribe, then you will be notified every time I make another post .

You probably want to read these posts right away, just in case your competition is.

Landscaper marketing used to be a phone number on a truck magnetic sign and lawn flyers. When you got more lawn customers, and could afford the high cost, you would buy an ad in the Yellow Pages.

Sorry people. That is so 2005! It just doesn't work anymore. And the yellow pages are WAY too expensive! $1000 + a month for a full page ad? Where I live it's $2500. Per month, per book. We got three. $7500 per month. Chances are, if you were getting a positive ROI on $80,000 + per year on advertising costs, you would not be researching "lawn care marketing" right now on your computer. Ya with me :) ?

Why do you think "Dex Knows" is all over your television? The yellow page companies understand that their yellow books are filling the land dumps.

First, nobody reads the yellow pages anymore. Even your Grandma buys her knitting supplies online. When a potential client is thinking about/or looking for a landscaper, they go online and s earch. It is faster, easier, and you get far more information about lawn business companies in your area.

Google is now featuring the "10 box" where local businesses advertise, so the "above the fold" space is even more limited.

This is super important. Check out the chart. If you are not in the top 5 returns for "lawn service Atlanta" your chances of getting clicked go WAY down. Not only that, but the top three returns pull more responsive buyers. Basically, in 2010, if you are not in the top five returns, your lawn service marketing mower is out of gas and will not cut grass. Period.

So, how do you get your lawn business found online? Easy! You just…

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
