Finding the right software for your glass business can be a difficult task. A good square foot pricing program can save you hours of estimating time and allow you to concentrate on other aspects of your business. The glass industry has a number or common items that it sells (single strength, laminated, plex, etc.). Some software products have these menus and items preloaded, saving you time. You just have to add your prices.
Purchase the software. When you find software you like, and can afford, go ahead a get it. Many programs can be immediately downloaded and should come with an easy setup and use tutorial.
Review different software options. There are probably twenty different programs out there that will help you estimate basic flat glass products. Some even offer free trials. ShopFiles™ comes with useful industry forms, as well as a commercial window pricer.
Add your pricing. You are going to want to get a price list from your glass supplier (as well as your screen and metal suppliers). Using their square foot prices, add what you want to get per square foot (including loss from cutoffs). Don't forget to test the pricing before you use the software with your customers!
Figure out your needs. If you have never used software for your glass business, your best bet is to start small. You don't want to spend a lot on a software product that might not work well, or is overly complex. You should be able to find software for a couple of hundred dollars that will fit your needs. Then, you can always find something better later, or add modules onto your existing software.
Learn from the software what works. This will help you with future decisions.
