Whether you're hosting a company holiday party, organizing an appreciation event for your clients or advertising an upcoming training seminar, making simple invitations with elegant touches is an effective way to spread the word. Choose eye-catching, yet understated embellishments that look attractive but don't overshadow the intent of the invitation. In a professional tone, provide clear instructions and information about the event's purpose, location and cost.
Create the business invitation text on a computer using a font that's easy to read and that suits the tone of the event. Plain block text works well for less-formal gatherings and seminars, and a script font is often appropriate for evening parties or formal events.
Mark off 5-by-7 inch pieces of the card stock with a ruler and pencil. Cut the card stock with scissors or a paper trimmer. This will serve as the base of your invitation.
Print the invitation text onto a 4-by-6 piece of white card stock and attach it to the center of the 5-by-7 inch card with double-sided tape. Include the company name and the reason for the event at the top of the text. Next, list the day, date, time, location and dress code. RSVP information, such as the event coordinator's name, phone number and the deadline for replies, should also be included. If you're organizing the event at a restaurant, hotel or convention center, include ticket costs, driving directions or parking locations.
Choose an understated card stock color for a single-sided invitation that matches your company logo or the event's decor. Consider using basic colors like black, silver and cream, or pastel shades such as light blue, tan or sage green.
Mail the invitations in pre-made envelopes that match the invitation. To add an elegant touch, cut a piece of foil paper that fits inside of the top envelope flap and affix it with double-sided tape.
Select a graphic or embellishment to appear across the top or bottom of the card. Consider a knotted piece of silk ribbon or a decorative rubber-stamped flourish. The company logo could also be pressed into the card stock with an embossing tool, or you could draw a double- or single-line border around the entire invitation with a silver, gold or bronze leafing pen.
