So you have started performing computer repairs as a business and you need more customers for cheap? Starting the business was not very difficult but finding new customers can be the most difficult part of running a business. This is where advertising is going to either make or break your future as a computer repair person.
Understand the business of repair. When you fix something that was once broken it no longer needs any fixing, so your customers are mostly going to be 1 time customers. You can increase the times a customer comes back by taking down an e-mail address, phone number, or address and do follow ups by offering a coupon or sale to repeat customers using the information you gathered.
Define your audience. Who do you want to reach? The first thing you should think about is, who are the people already paying someone else to repair their computer? These people should be your first target. Taking market share can be very easy to do if you can reach those customers and satisfy their needs better than someone else can. Second Target should be customers who don't know much at all about computers. People that don't know much about computers but need their computers fixed don't look online for help, they want a solid phone number or address so that they can find someone to help them without the use of technology.
Repetitive advertising. Have you ever watched a TV show and seen a commercial at least 3 times during the entire program? Recognizing who to go to in case of a broken computer is all about repetitive advertising. You must make your customers aware that you exist and keep reminding them that they should be going to you if their computer is broken.
Define a budget for advertising based on monthly business income or add the amount to the start up costs. You will want to try and allocate at least $500 for an effective but very basic guerrilla advertising campaign.
Advertising. So now that we know the basics lets discuss some possible ideas for advertising.
Flyers - Very basic and often ignored but at the cost it's a good value for low advertising budget. Pass flyers out to people, front doors, and to anyone that will take it from you.
Signs - Professional looking signs posted at the entrances to apartment complexes and on your car can be very effective.
Partnerships - always look for ways to share customers. If the manager at a gym needs a computer repaired, then why not do the service for free if you can place signs around the gym so while people are working out they are staring at your sign.
Mouse pads with logo - Give them for free after a repair and they will always see your advertising while happily using that now fixed computer.
USB Drives with logo - More expensive but worth the cost since it is a new technology and most people find them very neat tools.
Donation - Helping schools supply USB Drives with your logo, Mouse Pads with your logo, and training services in the community for free will let people know you are a good person.
Advertising Design and Style. Remember to always use printed text and never hand write a sign, it will appear as if your business doesn't even matter enough to make nice signs. Always display contact information and the business name the largest on your signs and flyers so that you can establish a presence. Keep in mind to advertise your best trait the second biggest on the sign or flyer, for instance, low prices or licensed repair man. Never overcrowd a sign or flyer since all you need people to remember is who to go to in case of a computer problem.
