How to Install TI-83 Backup Battery

The TI-83 is an advanced graphing calculator manufactured by Texas Instruments and first released in 2001. The calculator has internal memory that allows users to save important information. The memory is powered by a lithium battery that acts as a backup to the four AAA batteries that power the calculator. If the AAA batteries die or are removed from the calculator, the lithium battery powers the calculator so your information is not lost.

Remove the screw in the lithium battery cover with the screwdriver and pull the cover off of the lithium battery.

Push down on the battery cover latch and pull the cover out to expose the battery compartment. You will see the lithium battery cover above the AAA batteries.

Pull the old battery out of the compartment and discard it.

Turn off the calculator and turn it so the back is facing you. The battery compartment is located on the back of the calculator.

Replace the lithium battery cover, insert the screw using the screwdriver and replace the battery cover to complete the replacement of the backup battery.

Insert the new lithium battery with the "+" side facing up.
