Today's office is a place of efficiency through ergonomic use of space and materials. Having wood file folders hanging so that you can quickly get to the most needed files can save you time and increase productivity. When done right, they can also be an eye-pleasing focal point that demonstrates style and functionality. Wood file folders can be hung to match office décor and are easy to install. You can do this with basic carpentry skills and tools.
Locate the studs on the wall and mark them with a pencil. (Chances are you will not have two studs close enough to secure both screw mounts on, so you will need to create a beam to mount the file holder on and then mount that to the wall's stud.)
Measure the width of the folder and the distance between the screw mounts on the back.
Measure and cut the 1x2 a half-inch wider (horizontal mount) than each screw mount on the file holder. There should be 2 screw mount sections on the back. Giving yourself 1/2-inch on each side will give you the space to mount it.
Also cut a 4-inch section of the 1x2 beam.
Determine the number of file holders you will need. Many people will want an "In," "Out" and "Pending" holder.
Mount the "T" on the wall centered on the beam at the height you desire. Make sure this is level by placing the level on the top of the horizontal mount.
Center the 4-inch section under the horizontal mount and screw it in to make a "T."
