The world's wealthiest and most successful investors each have distinct styles. For instance, Warren Buffett, John "Jack" Bogle and George Soros are three very different type of investors.
- Warren Buffett, also known as the "Sage of Omaha," was the richest man in the world in 2008, according to "Forbes" magazine. Buffet is known for investing only in companies that he can understand intuitively and would not require a brilliant managerial staff to run successfully. He also requires that companies have low debt and a strong franchise name. Some of his notable investments include Johnson & Johnson and Coca-Cola.
- Jack Bogle, the founder of the Vanguard Group Inc., is known for investing in mutual funds that pay out successfully over many years and do not require significant maintenance. For example, Bogle suggests that investors place money in the S&P 500 and hold on to that investment for decades or more, because the long-term growth of the S&P 500 is overwhelmingly positive.
- George Soros, the founder of the Quantum Fund, is known for making between $1 billion and $2 billion in profit by betting against the British pound in a single investment of $10 billion. Soros reportedly relies a great deal on his instincts above all else and depends on understanding large global economic trends to predict how the values of various currencies will change over time.
