In the photography industry we are dealing with clients on a very personal level. When choosing your employees you must keep this in mind. Your employees represent you when you are not around and your clients must feel they can trust them, just like they trust you. Choosing qualified employees for your photography studio doesn't have to be impossible if you follow a few simple tips.
Look for employees that are enthusiastic and have an outgoing personality, especially if answering the phone will be one of their duties. You want someone who can answer the phone with a smile on their face and sound excited to be working for you. Not someone who sounds bothered or interrupted when someone calls.
Interview your prospective employee's thoroughly. Don't hire on the spot because it feels good. Always think about it. You may even want to consider holding a second interview just to be sure. Sometimes people prepare just a little too much for a first time interview and may not be the same once they start work. Keep talking to them until you are 100% sure.
Decide what their job duties will be in your studio prior to hiring them. Write a job description for every job you need to fill outlining their job description as well as specific individual tasks. For example, tasks may include answering telephones, greeting clients, packaging completed orders, confirming appointments, etc. Make sure prospective employees understand and can handle each of the tasks you need covered.
