You want to make the transition from photography as a hobby to business, but you're not quite sure where to start. One of the best ways to begin a photography business and get your work shown is to start a website. With so many website creation tools available (Yola.com, GoDaddy.com, Weebly.com, Dreamweaver), what was once a daunting task is becoming easier for those wanting to create a photography business website.
Create your landing page. This page should include information such as your name, phone number, email, and the type of photography you do.
Decide which web creation software you will use. Yola.com and Weebly.com both offer free websites and the ability to drag and drop. For a business, you will want to purchase your own domain name, which costs at least $19.95 a year.
Be mindful of search engine optimization content. To help bring people to your page, you may wish to have a blog on your page. Update your blog 2 to 3 times a week for best results with current photos, tips on taking pictures, and your current projects.
Before you can put your photos on a website, they should be digital and saved in .jpg format.
Create an image gallery showcasing the best of your photographs. If you photograph multiple subjects, consider having a separate page for each subject (i.e. a page for portraits, weddings or landscapes).
You will want to have a way for potential clients to contact you. Create a contact page using forms. One great option for this is Form Assembly--you create the form on their web page and insert the html code into your website.
