If you have a destination in mind for your road trip but no map or detailed instructions on how to get there, you'll waste a lot of time (and gas!) driving aimlessly as you search for the right route. The same is true in your business. If you don't know the specifics of what you'll do to achieve success beyond your wildest dreams, you might find yourself floundering for years on end with no relief in sight. A marketing plan outline will help you create a marketing plan that paves the way for a healthier, more successful business.
Competitors. This section will discuss the other companies who offer products/services similar (or identical) to yours, covering the differences and similarities between your company and others.
Product or service information. Here you'll cover in detail exactly what you'll be offering for sale. Describe the colors, weight, size and price of products and the price, methods of delivery, and so forth for services.
Marketing techniques. Here you'll give a detailed plan of the marketing techniques you will use to market your business. Will you use traditional advertising? Direct marketing? Networking? Detail your plans in this section.
Market research. This section will hold any information you find on your potential customers, which is anyone who is currently buying (or could potentially buy) your products or services. You'll talk about your customer's demographics (age, gender, education and so forth) along with competitor information (products offered, amount of annual sales and so on).
Goals. Both short-term and long-term goals will be discussed here. You'll want to be very specific, such as noting that in three months, you want to be averaging $2,000 per month, in 12 months you want to be averaging $10,000 per month, and so on.
Budget. You'll need money for many marketing methods, and this section will help you pinpoint exactly how much you'll need to get started and how much you anticipate spending on an ongoing basis.
