Safety glasses are important in the workplace as they protect against debris, chemical splashes and other materials that can get into employees' eyes and seriously injure or blind them. This is not only horrible and painful for the workers themselves, it also injures fellow workers' morale and costs the company money through insurance. While safety glasses can be required, there are ways to promote wearing them so that employees don't feel uncomfortable keeping their eyes safe.
- On the company's nickel, brochures should be distributed to all employees with the promise that the company will buy any pair of safety glasses listed for each and every employee. This way, employees can pick their own styles and colors so that there is some individuality to the glasses and they are both fun and enjoyable to wear. With safety glasses being an improvement to the overall look of the average employee, this will promote the regular use of safety glasses in the workplace.
- Safety glasses can be awkward to wear and uncomfortable on the bridge of the nose, along the temple and against the brow of the head. This is because they aren't made for comfort but for safety. Yet the more comfortable something is to wear, the more it will be worn. It may be a good idea to hire someone to add small foam pads, attach rubber bridges or adjust sizes of individual safety glasses in a large business that requires everyone to wear safety glasses. This way, if the glasses are uncomfortable for the employees, they can be made more comfortable on site.
- With every pair of safety glasses given out to employees, a retainer band which will attach to the back of the earpieces should be supplied so that every employee can simply hang their safety glasses around their necks when they are not using them. This promotes the use of safety glasses as employees won't be leaving them on their desks or around the business in random spots.
