Whether it's for home display or an exhibit in your local medieval weapon shop, knowing the most aesthetic method for mounting your weaponry can be useful. While many traditions tend to emphasize their own techniques for displaying weaponry, these often involve the presence of costly ornamental pieces. With some creativity and spare time, however, you can make your own weapons display for very little cost.
Stand above your foam "rock" with your sword unsheathed and slowly stab the blade into the center of the foam. Ensure a perfect 90-degree angle with the blade perpendicular to the stone's length and press down until the blade touches the hard surface. Your sword will now stand on its own due to the foam.
Test the stability of your foam block. With two secure screws, it will be safely mounted and ready to hold the weight of your sword. For an impressive look, sculpt your foam block into the shape of a rock or boulder. Paint it gray in order to recreate a stony look.
Place your helmet on top of the exposed handle, now raised three to four feet above the display. Lean the helmet to one side or straight up, depending on your taste and preference. Your helmet will now sit freely atop your sword in a manner that reproduces a scene from a battlefield.
Position your foam block in the desired location and mount it to the wooden floor or display area with a drill gun and two three-inch screws. Each screw will dig an inch into the foam before touching the floor, at which point you will begin to feel friction. Continue driving each screw until the heads are roughly two inches into the foam surface.
Apply finishing touches to your stone with light applications of white and black fingernail polish, creating the illusion of an actual rock. You now have a stand-alone sword and helmet display.
