It is all about making changes in how and with what you clean. Even small changes matter a lot. Try to do some preparatory work, and come up with a plan to launch your clean-green attack.
Use Green Ingredients - Cleaning products that contain petroleum-based chemicals can get rid of undesirable elements (grime, germs, mold, dirt, ...), but they also introduce their unhealthy components into your home. You do not want products killing elements that made you sick, while replacing them with other more dangerous elements which could get you even more sick. What you can do instead, like many other people are already doing, is creating your own household products which will save you a lot of money and are as effective. There are many inexpensive recipes out there stipulating exactly how to create your own cleaning mixtures with common household items such as vinegar and salt, and they take just a second to make.
Get Green Tools - Look for cleaning aids and tools that do the least amount of damage to the environment. Two example of tools that hurt the environment are mop systems and single-sue wipes. Certain mop systems have throwaway mop heads which strike against cleaning green. The same goes for single-use wipes when they can simply be replaced by an old towel, cloth or diaper, again and again, to accomplish the same goal. Gather tools that can serve a dozen of chores, instead of a dozen tools that serve only one single specialized purpose each. Invest in durable items which last and keep occupying your utility closet.
Work Smarter, Not Harder - Implement routines to prevent your home from getting dirty. Things like taking off the shoes at the front door, lightening up on clutter, getting organized, etc. Why squander your hours when you can apply efficiently ways to get more done and free up time. Cleaning green doesn't necessarily mean cleaning more. By preventing cleaning chores, you reduce the time needed to clean your home.
